Hey Jim,
Goose
hunting has been awesome this late season. Geese are hanging around late this year. Very educated and wise.
The custom
windsocks work great. We have been using a 3 group triangle decoy setup that is working great. We put the point of the triangle
down wind with about 18 bigfoots. We hide in this group. We set up about 24 bigfoots in each of the other 2 groups(upwind).
We add about 50 of your custom windsocks to these 2 groups. All the geese are looking at are the groups with the movement
not the point group. THey set in to the moving decoys and have to pass over us about 20 feet up.
The call is not as
effective right now. Simple blurps and clucks only. Without the windsocks it would be a bust. The other nite we tried the
spread with out the windsocks and had trouble getting the birds to commit past the 75 yard range. Wind is suppose to blow
out of NW 15-20 mph on Saturday. Should make the socks move great.
Once again realistic movement is the key. All the
local goose hunters around here do not use any windsocks. The only movement they get is with the flag and the geese have figured
that trick out.
I have to go scout and find a field for tommorrow.

Season's
Greetings from Iowa...I guess I should have said the frozen tundra of Central Iowa.
Wow! I gotta tell you this about
your mallards...I've field hunted mallards for years and have used most decoys out there..the old mallard Northwinds (unrealistic
appearance) , G&H shells (too time consuming to set up), Outlaw silhouettes (good visibility but still one dimensional), etc.
etc. This season was the first though for using the 13 Jim Jones mallards with heads in my spread.
Gotta love 'em!!
On days with wind, we'd usually set up with 80+ field mallard dekes just up wind of the pits about 20 yards and placed your
baker's dozen in a sweet spot directly downwind or right amidst the blinds. Birds would stack up like O'Hare Airport in Chicago
just to get down into your windsocks. Similar to what you described in your email. Unbelievable! But the quality of hunts,
close shots, and opportunities to "just plain watch the birds" work your decoys was breath-taking at times.
Guaranteed
that after the holidays, I will be starting to save for more of the mallards. (I would eventually like to replace all my field
mallard decoys with your custom windsocks.) Your dekes get birds!
THANKS! Jim Bonwell Des Moines, IA Hi Jim,
I
just wanted to tell you that we have had three good seasons in a row with your Custom windsocks, so much so that we put away
95% of our old decoys. The remaining 5% is just to hide our gear under.
We feel that the movement in the Custom decoys
is invaluable and the geese really like them. The first season we mixed the windsocks to add movement to the spread and it
worked great but it took a long time to set up. We then tried just using the Prairie Windsocks and, "wow", it was no stopping
the birds from coming right in. Decoying Snows was always hard but not anymore. We have had extremely good response from Snows,
Honkers, and Specks coming into the windsocks.
The other good things about the decoys are the ease of setting up, their
compactability, and the time saved. Thank you for the extra hour sleep every morning and the extra trailer space.
Thanks
for making a decoy that has it all.
Art Stanman Sherman Oaks, CA Jim,
First I would like to say that your
decoys are truly deadly!! The second and most important thing I would like to say is that the customer service you provide
is top notch. You have been very helpful and honest and have been there to answer any questions I've had. I thank you again.
Well
a little about your custom Canada socks. I had great results with them this past season and the movement they provided was
deadly on those late season honkers. They mixed well with my bigfoots and l think they made the difference this season on
a couple of hunts. One of my most memorable hunts was in January towards the end of the Ks season when Me and 3 friends limited
on Canada's and got 3 bands out of 1 flock. The geese were just drawn to the socks like magnets.
Also I hunted with
your custom Snow, Blue, and Juvie socks this past season. At first we were mixing them with shells, full-bodies, or silo's
and having marginal success. Well the weather was kind of screwy this spring but I have to say it was my best year ever. Finally
on the last couple days of the big push we went with an all custom spread of northwinds and let me tell you it was awesome.
The birds would be way up in the air and just spiral down into the decoys for easy shots. Nothing like the 50-yard shots I
was used to with the rags during previous seasons. Needless to say we have sold all the shells and silo's and I will be ordering
more of your custom socks. Keep up the hard work and thanks again for a great product.
Ryan Houser Parker, CO Jim, I
want to Thank You, Howard, Rosie and Mr. Jones for taking Gary and I with you on the most fantastic hunting adventure of my
life. I have had the great privilege of hunting and guiding some of the greatest sportsman in the world on various hunting
and fishing trips. I have never spent time in the field with any finer sportsman than you and Howard! I also enjoyed meeting
all the other hunters you introduced me to. Your dedication to the hunt, the laws and the resource are what all other sportsman
should strive to achieve in the field. The equipment, knowledge of the area and methods you shared with us were nearly
unbelievable and will remain a closely guarded secret with me. What I will share is that the sillosock snow goose, blue
goose, hardcore and tricked out custom windsocks decoy spread we hunted over enabled us to successfully deploy, decoy and
gun wary late season snow geese. Like yourself I have made, experimented with or used nearly every brand of decoy ever
made. In my opinion your products are the best money can buy and if you don't have it , I don't need it. I look forward
to hunting with you again and consider it a great privilege to even be invited to hunt with your team. As we have discussed
I plan to sell most of my other decoys, I have a whole barn full of them and need the new windsock support system, some
new heads and some duck decoys which I will be ordering in the near future. I tried opening the customprariewinddecoy price
list last night and couldn't get it open on my computer, I'll keep trying.
Your Friend,
Mike Lessard Yoder,
WY
P.S.
For anybody that might read this, if you are ever in Casper, Wyoming you would be well advised to
stop by Jim's home and visit with him and see for yourself what he is working on if you're a waterfowl hunter. He forgot more
about decoys etc. than most of us will ever know. You won't regret it.
